2. GRANDS AND KIDS WEEK AT GARDEN SPOT VILLAGE
Dear PARCR REPRESENTATIVES:
I’m writing to let you know about a special program Garden Spot Village initiated two years ago. The project is called GRANDS AND KIDS WEEK. Our project involves inviting our grandchildren to visit for a few days or a week (your choice). The staff has many wonderful activities for both grandparents and grandchildren to share. This past summer, our 11 year old grandson came for the week. We had such special time together at a cookout with the other participants; we played bocce, pickle ball, miniature golf, swimming; we also visited the firehouse, sat on the fire engine; my husband and he visited the woodshop and crafted a birdhouse together; there was a marshmallow roast one evening; and much more, including a visit from a Science Factory representative who thrilled the children with many exciting educational and scientific experiments.
We would like to share the mechanics of this special project with other retirement communities and will be offering a workshop on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 8:30 am -11am. At this time the Intergenerational Committee will be prepared to assist other communities implement a Grands and Kids week at their facility. The cost for this seminar is $20 pp.
If there is interest in the workshop; additional questions, please feel free to contact myself, or Colleen Musselman, Life Enrichment Director at Garden Spot Village. Colleen’s telephone number is: 717-355-6007; her e-mail is cmusselman@gardenspotvillage.org.
Looking forward to your response, I remain
Sincerely yours,
Carol A. Wendel
